Man laying brick masonry

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, on the 150th anniversary of the Gilbane Building Company, the masonry program students of the Carroll Co Career & Tech Center took part in the ceremonial “first brick” event.  Susan Hopkins our Assistant Principal, and Betsy Donovan our Principal were there as well.  Senior General Superintendent Rick Parker of the Gilbane Building Company reached out to the masonry program to inquire if they would like to take part in the ceremonial “first brick”. Additionally, he presented to the level II masonry students on pertinent topics such as masonry safety, through-wall flashing and moisture diversion, spray foam insulation, and the importance of job-site scheduling in regards to the masonry contractor. Three students were selected to lay our first bricks:  Logan Bockelmann and Parker Warehime from FSK, and Isaac Stonesifer from Littlestown HS in PA.  It was an honor to be a part of this monumental event.  The masonry students got to experience the high industry standards that are expected in this trade.
