💙💛 Board Highlights – October Committee Meetings 💙💛
The Committees of the School Board met on Tuesday, October 7th to discuss a wide range of topics — from upcoming budget planning and facility needs to academic initiatives and policy updates — all focused on supporting our students, staff, and community.
💰 Finance, Property & Supply (FP&S) Committee
📊 Recommended a resolution to the full Board not to exceed the 4.5% Act 1 Index this year. (The Act 1 Index sets the maximum percentage a school district may raise property taxes without voter approval — it is a state limit, not this year’s budget recommendation!)
🦺 Added two new safety items to the capital project list for full-board consideration — security camera system replacement at ACES and smoke detector/fire alarm replacement at the Transportation and Maintenance Building.
🏫 Decided to tour district facilities before making any major decisions on additional specific capital improvements, to see firsthand where updates may be needed.
🎤 Reviewed pending change orders for new sound systems in the three middle/high school music rooms, addressing a critical need that was not included in the original building project. These upgrades will ensure that our music programs have the proper equipment to support instruction and performance. The change orders will be on the board agenda for approval on October 20th.
📘 Curriculum, Co-Curriculum & Policy (CC&P) Committee
📗 Dr. Berryman presented the Academic Excellence Plan, outlining strategies to support continuous academic improvement across the district.
📄 Reviewed several policy updates as we continue working to bring all district policies into alignment with Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) recommendations and ensure compliance with the Pennsylvania School Code. The committee sent the policies forward to the full board for a first reading.
