Questions and Answers from 2023 Spring Survey
I would like information on the preschool program.
Why does running for school board require a political (Democratic/Republican/Independent) affiliation? What does politics have to do with education?
What are future plans for a career & Tech center ?
How often do District Office staff receive raises and what are the qualifications that need to be met in order to get a raise?
Discipline seems be a growing concern in the middle and high school. Students seem to behave with little to no consequences for their actions. What is the plan to reform the overall discipline especially as a larger issue not fixing the easy low hanging fruit issues but the larger issues which create these smaller issues, like threatening comments from students, unsafe driving around the school lots and general disrespect for teachers and coaches.
Are there volunteer groups for children to help with things like picking up trash or helping plant plant or mow grass or even something where they could work with the elderly?
I understand there will be a discussion in summer 2023 about the 'fluffing' of grades. Will the results of these discussions be made available to the parents? When will the middle school get back to assigning homework? It is a disservice to students to not have them work DAILY (Monday through Thursday) on the skills they learned on any given day. Repetition helps learning. Your question above related to how often we hear from teachers should have an option for an individual response. The ONLY teacher we hear from is Mr. Urey
Why don't you meet with community members and do Q&A? Why isn't your focus on what past surveys said is most important?
With all the school shootings across the country how is LASD tightening security throughout the district? Is every discipline/threat being taking seriously? Are increased safety measures for our children being implemented to the new school? I feel there is always room for improvement. Thank you!
Why doesn't the school board president pay taxes like the rest of us do?
I would really like to see better easier access to our children's grades. Maybe a app. I can never get in on the portal. Its too much. Hate it. Just an app with a number log in to access all our children and thier assignments would be awesome! With maybe a spot to commicate with thier teachers.
Why is the district revisiting the concept of a 4 day week when the public has already spoken on this issue? The results of the last survey were clear; yet it is on the table again
Why did you pay $25,000.00 for land when all the rest is half the price?
Are we teaching kids to pass the standardized tests, or to life/college skills?
How will mental health programs continue after ESSR funding is gone? Beyond the mental health clinic, what more can be done to address the youth mental health crisis? What more can be done to prevent bullying and improve social interactions, especially in middle school?
When will the School district start taking action on uncontrollable kids? It's a serious matter that could cause drastic consequences.
Does the Littlestown School Board and school leaders consider the background or demographic of its citizens and/or student body when making decisions? (How many current students come from families who entered the district from out of state? What is that percentage? [expectations in education are vastly different in our neighboring states] Example: When I moved to Littlestown in the 90s, I believe residents were attracted to a low tax base, appealing property values. Hence, there was a boom in population (mostly from Maryland) triggering the need for building expansion, facility upgrades, and ACES circa 2004. Do those making decisions consider that there are other models for education and not just those steeped the tradition of "well we've always done it this way?" #Innovate (I do see progress in the last 8-10 years, but more folks need to invest in the vision)
When will cell phones be restricted or limited in our school building for students and be held with consequences? A lot of learning is being effected by the distraction of phones.
What are the plans to offer college credit course for students that might be ready? Are there partnerships with community college?
When can we expect the website to be updated with updated policies and programming? When asking about funding, you didn't indicate what kind of funding. I am supportive to having someone write more grants and take advantage of opportunities that aren't an additional cost of tax payers.
Can parents access content area curricula? Parents need more access.
Why isn’t LASD, knowing that LIU is failing their students, making an effort to bring those kids back to the District?
Will you be keeping the child care class?
While I support some standardized testing, I would like to know if there is a way to cut back on some of it? MAPS & PSSAs take up a lot of time for these kids.
Why is Littlestown following behind in safety? Why have just a safety/security vs paying for actual police officer?
