Students created Japanese hachimakis in 7th grade Ancient Civilizations to help them learn about the cultural practices and products of the people in Japan. A hachimaki, or head band, is a thin towel or strip of cloth tied around the crown of head; according to Japanese legend, hachimakis strengthen spirit and repel evil spirits. They are commonly worn during festivals, and martial arts.

Webster's Dictionary defines coding as: the process of using symbols that are used to secretly send messages to someone or something. Recently, the Blue Thunder 6th grade team spent time teaching our students the real-world application of coding.

British Columbia's largest city hosted the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Championship game, can you name this city? Maple Avenue recently conducted the 2016 Geography Bee.

When reading and analyzing a book about family, isolation, and strategy what is the best way to drive home the concepts and standards in a meaningful way? By placing students into teams and having them compete in a variety of mentally and physically strategic games, of course!
