Advanced Placement courses provide students with access to college-level curriculum and success on the AP Exams correlates highly to success in college. LHS offers AP courses in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Literature, Computer Science, Calculus, and US History.
This school year we are proud to add Calculus BC and US Government to the expanding list of offerings.
The recent 2016 AP Exam Score Summary, provided to participating schools by the College Board, shows LHS has again increased participation and performance. Since 2013 the number of participating students has increased from 15 to 64, the number of exams taken increased from 18 to 89, and the number of students scoring a 3 or above on at least one exam increased from 10 to 39.
“We are so proud of our students’ achievements,” stated Dr. Meakin, High School Principal. “It’s remarkable how quickly enrollment has increased in these courses yet we are still getting solid scores,” he added.
“Our AP teachers are committed to turning a group of individual courses into a program. They host an AP 101 night in the Spring for students and parents, make themselves available for summer sessions, and provide excellent learning experiences and support throughout the course itself,” said Dr. Meakin. “It’s a pleasure to watch them work with and for our students.”
Students and parents interested in AP level courses should contact their guidance counselor to discuss enrollment options and scheduling the correct preparatory classes.
