The Power of Poetry

Words have impact!   Poetry is one of the most concise and powerful use of written words.  In this unit you will read poems and write your own poems in similar fashion.  The following items must be included in your portfolio:

Three (3) poems by three different authors from the Poetry Archive.  Choose from the alphabetical listing.  If you don't have any authors in mind ask someone on  the Poetry Forum for suggestions.

One (1) poem that relies on syllable patterns:  haiku, tanka, cinquain, lantern, etc.

One (1) form poem: acrostic, circular, shape, etc.

One (1) rhyme and meter poem:  clerihew, limerick, ballad, ode

One (1) sonnet.

Three (3) poems of your choice from any of the sites you have visited.

For each of the ten poems you find and illustrate, write your own poem that relates, reflects, or continues the concepts of the found poem.

Copy and illustrate each pair of poems on clean sheets of paper to complete your portfolio.
