Students Working for Excellence at Littlestown

Maple Avenue Middle School's SWEL Program provides students with the opportunity to be rewarded for excelling in three areas:  Academics, Behavior, and Attendance.  These three areas are vital to the success of each student in the Littlestown Area School District.  We, at Maple Avenue, understand the challenges that face our adolescents each and every day.  This program is designed with Middle School students in mind, to help foster and develop the traits necessary to meet with success far beyond the Middle School environment.  All students in the Maple Avenue Middle School are enrolled in the program.  Students have the opportunity to earn the qualifying amount of points throughout the school year which will make them eligible for quarterly awards.

Academics = 2 points

Students earning quarterly marks of "C" or better in all core subject areas are awarded 2 points.  Should students earn a "D", 1 point will be deducted for each mark.  Should students earn an "F", 2 points will be deducted.

Behavior = 2 points

Students earn points based on their behavior.  All students will receive 2 points to begin each marking period.  Students keep their points by meeting or exceeding our behavioral expectations.  Students who receive district detention will lose 1 point per detention for the quarter in which they receive it.  Students will lose 2 points for a suspension which occurs during the quarter.

Attendance = 1 point

All students will earn 1 point for attendance.  Students will retain their attendance point by maintaining an attendance record with zero unexcused absences.  Students who acquire more than zero unexcused absences will lose 1 point.  In accordance with School Board Policy, students who receive three or more unexcused tardies will receive a half day (.5) unexcused days from school.

Students have the possibility of earning a total of 5 points each marking period (quarter). To qualify for each quarterly SWEL reward, students must earn all 5 points.
