Extra Curricular Activities

Band
Maple Avenue offers many extracurricular activities, one of which is band. We have two large ensembles: 6th grade band and the 7th & 8th grade band, known as the “Gold Band”. The bands meet every other day during school hours. Each student is also assigned to one group lesson per 6 day cycle. These lessons are “pull outs” requiring students to miss some instructional time to attend. After school time is made available for students who are unable to attend sectionals

Music
MAMS enjoys seasonal performances by our sixth grade chorus, as well as by our seventh and eighth grade choruses.

FALL
Football
At Maple Avenue our football teams are split into the 5th and 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade teams. The 5th and 6th grade teams are divided further into the Thunder and Bolts, while the 7th, 8th, and 9th are JV-Varsity. Coaches Doug French and Joe Bowman lead the teams. Being a part of the football program in Littlestown means that you are always well supported by the alumni, Bolt Booster Club etc.

Field Hockey
There is a very active field hockey team featured at MAMS. This program is great preparation for the District Champion High school team. The 7th and 8th grade team is led by Sue Krumrine and Wendy Mizenko.

WINTER
Girls Basketball
The 7th & 8th grade Lady Bolt's Basketball team had a solid season this year. The team is made up of enthusiastic female athletes who are learning offensive and defensive strategies to use on the court. Coaches Jane Concino and Joanne Simpson lead the program.

Cheerleading
There are 5 different cheerleading squads at MAMS. There is a 5th and 6th grade team who cheer for the 5th and 6th grade football, and a 7th, 8th, and 9th grade squad who cheer for the football/basketball/wrestling teams of Maple Avenue and Littlestown High School. The 7th, 8th, and 9th grade squads practice on voice, good form, flexibility, strength, and also work on over 125 cheers and chants. They also learn many mounts, stunts and dances, which are used in great detail for pep rallies, high school, entertainment etc. There are about 10-14 girls on each squad who are selected after try-outs. The football/wrestling coach is Lori Eichelberger, and the basketball coach is Sabrina Leidy.

Wrestling
Littlestown is known for its outstanding wrestling team which won the championship in 1998-1999. Matches are usually on Thursdays and Saturdays, and they always have a big turnout. The wrestling team trains with the high school team in preparation for the coming years. Wrestling is offered for all grades in MAMS.

SPRING
Volleyball
At Maple Avenue, there is a very athletic, well-trained and competitive volleyball program coached by Sharon Litten and Lindsay Gladhill and open to girls in the 7th and 8th grades. There are JV and Varsity teams with players being decided by try-outs.

SUMMER
Baseball
The Baseball team is in the town league. Grades fifth through seventh play for a group of teams in Little League. The older seventh graders and eighth graders are in a traveling Pony League. When in high school, you can play for the Littlestown Thunderbolts who won the AA championships in 1998.

Softball
The girls softball league, run at McSherry's Field, consists of seven teams. For younger children there are the Pee-Wee teams and the junior league. In grades fifth through eighth, girls can play for the Little League teams.
