BUS CONDUCT PROCEDURES

Littlestown Area School District-owned vehicles are equipped with a video monitoring system.

The students who ride school buses must abide by the same discipline code they observe while in school.

Riding a school bus is a privilege and this privilege may be revoked if the student's conduct jeopardizes the safety of the other students riding the bus. Removal from the bus can be temporary or permanent. Should this occur it is the parent/guardian's responsibility to provide transportation to and from school.

All bus rules are posted on the buses and in each public school building handbook.

All school and bus rules are in effect anytime a student is waiting for, traveling on, or disembarking the bus.

The bus driver is the immediate authority on each vehicle. Any defiance of this authority will be reported to proper school officials and appropriate consequences will result. It is the driver's responsibility to enforce and maintain orderly conduct.

The drivers are instructed to handle discipline at the bus level.

Verbal warnings and documenting infractions are followed with a bus conduct referral. Referrals are shared with the transportation coordinator and proper administration at the students' assigned building.

Disciplinary actions will be taken as listed in the appropriate building handbook and will be served in accordance with the infraction.

During the school year, requests for bus transportation must be made by completing a Transportation Form 3 days prior to the beginning date of transportation.

Requests for alternate bus routes will be approved upon availability of space on the alternate bus and if the alternate route has allotted time.

A request for a change from the assigned bus stop for a reason of health shall be substantiated by documentation from a physician.

No temporary bus changes allowed except for time related emergencies. Emergency situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Bus stop changes on an assigned bus are accepted on a limited basis provided stop request is an established stop.

Transportation will be limited to a maximum of two (2) locations for pick-up and two (2) locations for drop-off.

The daily schedule must be consistent for the week.

Permanent changes in bus and bus stop locations are limited to three (3) times a school year per student.

BUS PASSES

Students in Grades 5-12 must have an approved late bus pass issued from their building office to allow access to the elementary bus in the afternoon.
