We have been asked by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to distribute
to you information about a proposed settlement in a lawsuit - Gaskins
v. Pennsylvania Department of Education. The lawsuit began about 10 years
ago and initially involved 12 families of children with disabilities and
the Pa. Department of Education. The families are not members of our community
and the lawsuit did not involve our school district, however the settlement
is a class action lawsuit representing all children with disabilities
within the Commonwealth.
The lawsuit involves educating students with disabilities in the least
restrictive environment.
