The Boys Cross Country Team finished the Fall Sports Season with their 1st ever Division III Championship! The guys worked very hard this year to achieve their goals finishing the season 6-0 in the division. Coach Dan Lawrence received Coach of the Year for YAIAA. We also had some good post-season performances by a number of our runners. Michael Bittinger finished 16th overall at the YAIAA Cross Country League Meet. Kobe Towner (51st), Misha Kakoulin (76th), Austin Kipple (79th), Bryson Eyler (95th), Logan Collins (97th) all finished in the top 100 out of 144 runners. On the girls’ side, Danielle Naill (65th), Juliana Stolkovich (77th), and Ashley Heldibridle (86th) also finished in the top 100 out of 123 runners.
Based on their performances throughout the year, Michael Bittinger, Bryson Eyler, Misha Kakoulin, Kobe Towner, Logan Collins, Austin Kipple, and Danielle Naill all qualified for the PIAA District III Cross Country meet held at Big Spring High School. Michael Bittinger ran a great race and finished 18th overall earning himself a trip to the State Cross Country Meet in Hershey. Overall, it was a very exciting year in the sport of Cross Country.
We also had an independent golfer qualify for the PIAA District III Golf Tournament this year. Devin Peart shot an 89 at the YAIAA Golf Tournament, which qualified him for the District III Tournament.
Other Fall Varsity Records:
Boys Soccer: 2-15
Girls Soccer: 4-12
Field Hockey: 11-7
Girls Tennis: 3-9
We had four teams win sportsmanship awards this fall. The Boys Soccer, Girls Tennis, and Volleyball teams were all given YAIAA Division III Sportsmanship awards as voted on by the other coaches in their division. The Varsity Football team was given the Sportsmanship Award that is voted on by the YAIAA Football Officials Chapter. We should be very proud of these teams and the way they represent Littlestown School District.
The Winter Sports Season is starting to wind down with roughly three weeks left in the regular season. Boys Basketball has a record of 5-10 and Girls Basketball has a record of 7-7. Both teams are 4-4 in YAIAA Division III and are a lot of fun to watch this year as they continue to compete and get better. The girls played in the Championship game of both the tip off and holiday tournaments they attended. The wrestling team is short on numbers this year which has made it tough to win a lot of Dual matches. They are currently 6-5 overall.
The Girls Basketball team raised money from the 3v3 Tournament for three outstanding organizations. They were able to donate to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Tanner’s Touch, and the Littlestown Min-Thon. Members of these three organizations attended the January 5th basketball game vs Fairfield and were presented with their checks between games.
The fundraising that was being done through ad sales on the scoreboard raised enough money this year to pay off the new stadium scoreboard as well as put money back into the kids. We were able to purchase new Girls Basketball uniforms.
Athletic Facility Upgrades
We continue to look forward to the potential Athletic facility upgrades in conjunction with the Alloway Creek building project. Construction bids for Alloway Creek are expected back sometime around Spring 2016. Once those are back we can really begin to set the Athletic Facilities upgrade plan in motion.
The students and community of Littlestown School District deserve facilities that give them a sense of pride. The initial concept that was laid out by the Administration and School Board achieves that. We do know; however, this project is going to need more money than will be left over after the completion of Alloway Creek. We are working to come up with creative solutions along with the newly formed Thunderbolt Foundation. Various fundraising events along with selling Naming Rights throughout the district are some of our ideas. Please keep a look out in the coming months for opportunities to help us achieve our goal and build facilities the students and the community can be proud of.
Drug & Alcohol Policy Update
There will be changes to the Drug/Alcohol Policy in the Athletic Handbook effective June 6, 2016. The new policy can be viewed HERE.
