Advanced Placement (AP) courses are designed to provide a college-level educational experience to high school students. Many colleges grant credits for high scores on AP Exams, and research shows that a score of 3 or higher is predictive of college success and graduation.
The Pennsylvania State Board of Education took action last week to adopt new cut scores for the state assessment—the PSSA. New cut scores, or dividing points between proficiency levels, were needed due to the change in format and difficulty of the 2015 state assessment. This year’s assessment was based solely on the PA Core Standards, adopted in 2013. These new standards are more rigorous to better prepare students to be college and career ready upon graduation.
Advanced Placement courses provide students with access to college-level curriculum and success on the AP Exams correlates highly to success in college. LHS offers AP courses in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Literature, Computer Science, Calculus, and US History.
