Great things are happening in the Littlestown Area School District classrooms! This year, the K-5 program will see many new changes. Students will experience a 120 minute Literacy block. Contained within the block will be components of shared reading, guided reading, read aloud, independent reading, word work and writing. The goal of a balanced literacy program is to provide students the foundational skills to become proficient readers and writers.
The district has adopted a new math series. Go Math! , published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, is a researched based program aligned to the PA Core Standards. The program emphasizes understanding, computational fluency, and real life application. Students will have the opportunity to engage with math content through digital resources in the classroom. Each K-5 classroom now houses chromebooks for student use in small group instruction.
At the secondary level, our core content courses continue to evolve. Teachers are working diligently to ramp up instruction to meet the rigor of the PA Core and Academic Standards. Emphasized are the four C’s—four specific skills students need to succeed in the world—critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Our goal is to provide each student a rich learning experience preparing them to be successful in our global environment.
Littlestown Area School District is proud to provide learning environments that engage and challenge our students.
